When choosing a Wedding Planner what do you look for?

As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen too many planners turn a clients wedding into their idea of a perfect wedding. It’s not the planner’s wedding, they are simply hired to make things run smoothly the day of! You want to make sure your clients understand that you are there for them. That you will take all their thoughts and ideas and articulate them into an event that they and their friends and family are going to remember (in a good way) for a lifetime! Be prepared to take criticism from over eager moms. I had to pull a crying bride aside at one wedding and tell her it was her wedding, not the planners. If she wanted to do something one way, then so be it. Do it! I’ve had planners try to tell me my job. Doesn’t work! You need to be able to work constructively with all the vendors. Hope this helps.

the most important thing is to be reliable. my wedding planner got all the costs wrong and i ended up having to fight for my rights to make sure i got the wedding at the costs quoted to me she under priced everything and it was such a worry because i didnt think i could afford it but they struck a deal with me and honoured the quotes that i was given. then the planner got fired and the new planner was so difficult to get in touch with that the stress was unbearable. when i did speak to her she was totally clueless. you need to make sure you are easy to contact and that you know your job inside and out. on my wedding day the planner was no where to be seen and i had to do her job on the day to make sure it ran smoothly. i woulnt use a planner if i got married again because of this experience and im sure i could do the job better for other people. im sure you arent this bad at all but it is such an important day for the bride and you need to take her seriously and make her feel important and be there for her when she needs to run things by you . if you do that i think word of mouth is the best way to drum up business if you are good this wont be a problem. looking after stressed out bridezillas , rather you than me. good luck im sure you will be fine
